This summer my family and I traveled during the Covid-19 pandemic, and while it was nerve-racking, I am glad we were able to get out after being home for so long. As with all things there are ways to do it safely.
Here are my tips on how me and my family traveled safely this summer.
- Take a test before you travel for peace of mind.
- Allow 2-4 days for exam results.
- If you are visiting family this will also give them peace of mind.
- Pack a mask (okay maybe a few).
- I personally prefer to travel with surgical masks as they feel more breathable.
- Some people like to use essential oils to give their mask a quick refresh.
- If you are traveling through the airport you will have to wear your mask throughout your entire time there and on the plane.
- If you are flying, I suggest wiping your seat with a disinfectant wipe. This also applies for when you are at public places and you feel the need to give certain places an extra wipe down.
- My wipe of choice is the “Wet One” brand, or just regular lysol/clorox wipes.
- Actually, you should always disinfect your seat regardless of the pandemic. *I’ve heard this from people that work in the industry*
- Don’t forget the snacks!
- Some airlines ARE NOT giving snacks during their flights, others are giving pre-packed ziplock bags with water and a small snack.
- It’s better to be safe than sorry, especially if traveling with littles.
- Wash your hands often.
- I use hand sanitizer as my last resort. In my opinion nothing feels cleaner than good old soap and water. Regardless, don’t forget your hand sanitizer. You’ll definitely need it.
- Get on a good Vitamin C regimen. Talk to your provider about what’s the correct dosage for you.
- Vitamin C is extra important right now because it’s a great immune system support!
- Be prepared with a thermometer and medicine for everyone in your party.
- Try to avoid places that are full, and opt for the most secluded parts of the place you are visiting.
- Call restaurants, and establishments before making the trip there to make sure that they are still allowing customers. Many places are reaching capacity pretty quickly.
- Do a quick google search of the place you are planing to visit. Most of them include data on the best times to go.
- Be prepared to possibly have to quarantine at home for 14 days after travel if necessary or mandated. This means pre-planning for this before you leave on your trip. If you are going to be around other people within the first 14 days let them know you have traveled. Some people might not feel comfortable being around you just yet.
- Have fun! Everyone in the world has suffered this pandemic together, and we all desperately need some time away.
Pro-Tip: I love using instagram to help me find cool new places to explore. I use hashtags like #explorePLACEYOUAREVISTING ie: #explorechicago you would be surprised at how much this will help!
Happy and safe travels to you and yours!
